Robert Regan, or “RJ” as he has gone by for the last 50 years was born in Lansing and has lived in Grand Rapids since 2000. A graduate of East Lansing High School (class of 1985) RJ attended Indiana University and earned a Finance degree before taking a job with the Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati, OH. After he was abducted and taken hostage at gunpoint as part of a bank robbery, Robert left the bank for other opportunities. He worked as the Operations Research Manager of the family business Plas-Labs, Inc. world leaders in acrylic containment and isolation technologies, before earning his MBA from Northwood University, DeVos Graduate School of Management. He then owned Laboratory Equipment Manufacturers, a small manufacturing firm, for 10 years before the financial collapse of 2008-2009 led him to a career in professional recruiting where he helped Michigan’s medical device companies like Stryker and Terumo Cardiovascular hire top talent from around the country and recruit them and retain them in the state of Michigan. Robert is presently one of the top rated Uber drivers in west Michigan which allows him to stay very close to his constituency, to pursue and focus full time on his passion of running for office in the 73rd District as Michigan State House Representative.
Robert’s firm beliefs to “make a difference” are the driving force behind his decision to pursue the open seat vacated by Chris Afendoulis’s announcement for State Senate. Robert is very involved in community and youth events: Grand Rapids Civic Theater, Grand Rapids Ballet Volunteer, Equipper with Relational Concepts (Bible based discipleship), past leader of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and board member of Shared Pregnancy Crisis Center (A pro-life center offering support to women and encouraging adoption as an alternative to abortion). Robert is a father of four children (a son and three daughters) and is very involved in their activities and education. He is an active athlete and participates in various running events like the Grand Rapids Marathon, Groundhog Marathon, Riverbank Run, Mitchell’s Run, Reeds Lake Run, Irish Jig and the Reeds Lake Triathlon and a variety of marathons across the country, most recently competing in the 40 mile mountain trail run in Colorado.
Robert has a passion for helping young people become all that they were created to be and has taught solid life principles based on his book “Gambling For Life” that he self published in 2009. Don’t let the title fool you. In the book, Robert offers ways to “stack the odds in your favor” by making wise life choices including the basic building blocks for a successful life based on self development first of your mind, body and spirit, then looking outwardly at work, finances and family. In the book, he lays out the case that one of the best things a young person can do to fulfill their deepest desires is to get married and stay married.
Robert will be a solid candidate for State Representative in the 73rd District which includes Canon Township, Courtland Township, East Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids Township, Nelson Township, Oakfield Township, Plainfield Township and Spencer Township. Robert anticipates his candidacy as State Representative for the 73rdDistrict to be challenging and fruitful as he has the knowledge and experience as a business owner, employee and family man to relate to the constituents and make a difference in his community. The theme for Robert’s Campaign is “Honest, Effective Government… for a Change.”
